Lake Erie Region
The Northwest corner of Pennsylvania features Pennsylvania's only
"shoreline" along Lake Erie. This natural playground offers
bountiful shores and waterways for fishing, boating, swimming, and
tons of other exhilarating activities. The largest city in this
area, Erie, in Erie County, also affords the chance to experience
some of the best of the "big city" and the beach in one
charming town.
The
Lakeshore Railway Museum
Since 1970, the Lake Shore Railway Museum has been housed in the
former New York Central passenger depot in North East. The museum
features a large collection of artifacts such as engineer caps,
badges, dining car dishes, signal lanterns, communication devices,
photographs, and historical documents. Parked on tracks outside
the museum are an original Heisler fireless steam locomotive, a
1922 tank car, a chronology of three refrigerator cars, and dining
and sleeping cars -- including a 1926 "Nightstar" sleeping
car built by Pullman. The museum is operated by the Lake Shore Railway
Historical Society.

Two-and-a-half hour ride, with an optional stop at Drake Well Museum,
